Havoc On Fire

By Bill Bryant, The Huntsville Time

Six Huntsville players score in a 7-1 victory against Fayetteville

Less than four minutes into Thursday night's game against Fayetteville, Dan McWhinney had all of the confidence required to shut down the Southern Professional Hockey League's top-scoring team.

The Huntsville Havoc goalie not only had a two-goal lead, courtesy of defensemen Adam Lukacovic (his sixth) and Dean Petiot (just his second), he had plenty of moral support, too.

"The boys were all fired up tonight," McWhinney said.

Yes, the boys were.

The Havoc started fast and never let up on the visiting FireAntz, sending starting goalie Guy St. Vincent to the bench after the first period and beating his replacement Bryan Bridges four more times in a 7-1 victory in front of an announced crowd of 2,411 at the Von Braun Center.

The win moved Huntsville (26-14-9, 61 points) to within a point of second-place Fayetteville (30-18-2, 62 points). It also marked the second game in a row that the Havoc tallied seven goals.

Since falling behind Knoxville 4-0 in the first period last Saturday, they've gone on a 14-3 goal-scoring run. Huntsville did it in every conceivable fashion against the FireAntz, with six different players scoring and 13 different players earning points.
