Snakes Welcome Back Pair of Forwards

The Columbus Cottonmouths have re-signed forwards Sam Bowles and Jesse Cole for the upcoming season. They join forward Orrin Hergott, defensemen Will Barlow and Kyle Lundale, and goaltender Ian Vigier on the list of returning players for the 2010-11 season.

Bowles returns for his third season in Columbus. He came to the Snakes midway through the 2008-09 season, making an immediate impact. He registered 53 points in 44 games, and finished third on the Snakes roster in points, despite playing 16 fewer games. Last year, he started the season with the Missouri Mavericks of the CHL, but re-joined the Snakes in November, picking up 47 points in 52 regular season games.

Cole came to the Snakes for his professional hockey debut last season after four years at Neumann College. As a rookie, he was one of the Snakes’ most consistent offensive weapons, recording 51 points in 53 games. Cole was named to the all-SPHL rookie team and finished third on the Snakes roster in points. He recorded three hat tricks in his rookie season.

“I’m really excited to have Jesse back,” head coach Jerome Bechard. “I think he deserved to be rookie of the year last season, and I look forward to having him help lead our hockey team in the right direction. Sam has the potential to be one of the leading scorers in the league. He had a sub-par year last season, but I expect him to rebound as we make some adjustments. We’re going to see a lot of new faces, and I’m really looking forward to it.”

The Snakes officially open 2010-11 training camp Saturday, Oct. 9 with meetings and physicals. Opening night is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 22 against the Pensacola Ice Flyers. Season tickets are on sale now, with mini packs starting at just $88. Payment plans are available. Contact the Cottonmouths at 706 571 0086 for more information.
